About

Based on the Surrey/Sussex/Kent border, LongView Gardens is a garden and planting design studio specialising in the design of distinctive outdoor settings for private and commercial clients.

We design plant-led gardens using local or recycled materials wherever possible, re-using resources from each site and choosing new materials which have longevity and will weather well.  Creating spaces that feel at ease but are also exciting and sympathetic to the surrounding landscape, these are gardens that celebrate every season resulting in a year-round immersive space.

Ultimately our work is informed by an intuitive understanding of the way gardens make us feel and a belief that a beautiful, well-designed garden can have a hugely positive impact on our well-being.

Drawing on our knowledge and experience, our designs focus on aspects including:

  • Detailing finishing surfaces which will entice you in to discover and explore the garden;
  • Curating naturalistic planting schemes that will flourish and provide interest in their form, texture, colour and scent;
  • Creating views to draw you through the garden as well as quiet corners which invite you to pause, linger and enjoy the surrounding sights and sounds of nature.

Practical considerations such as the provision of adequate privacy, functional spaces, access routes, amenity and storage spaces for maintenance etc. are also given particular attention.

Sustainable Garden Design

Our ethos to plant more and build less is at the forefront of every design.  We strive to implement improvements which increase the enjoyment and extend the use of garden spaces without unnecessary cost or detriment to the environment by keeping excavation to a minimum and retaining waste on site, repurposing existing materials in order to use as few new materials as possible, retaining and preserving existing trees and shrubs wherever possible to minimise disruption to soil and wildlife.

With every project, we are mindful of the environmental footprint of the materials, process and plants used. We consider wildlife and biodiversity from the very start of the process and the inclusion of plants which provide enrichment for pollinators and other beneficial insects are of prime importance.  Rainwater collection and storage equipment is another element we include within each design proposal to provide adequate supply for the irrigation of new planting and ongoing requirements.

Plants are sourced from preferred, local, independent botanical nurseries wherever possible who grow their plants in peat free compost.  Plastic pots are donated to a project that can reuse them and compost bags are either reused or recycled. All compost specified is peat free and chippings FSC certified.
